Wingate Villages, LLC Columbus, Signs Submetering Contract with Guardian

Columbus, Ohio November 24, 2003 – Guardian Water & Power, a Columbus-based supplier of utility metering services, today announced signing a contract to install one of the nation’s largest single-site radio frequency submetering systems. The system will be installed at Wingate Villages (formerly Lincoln Park West Apartments) in Columbus, Ohio. Wingate is a 1,280-unit apartment complex recently purchased by Matrix Realty Group, Inc., headquartered in Ronkonkoma, New York.

Matrix specializes in the restoration of multi-unit investment real estate and owns a portfolio of 4,000 units in five states. Wingate Villages is its first property in Ohio. Richard McGilvary, Matrix’s regional vice president, will head the restoration work. “Our commitment to providing quality rental housing in Central Ohio includes a $9 million investment to upgrade and restore Wingate Villages,” McGilvary said.

Guardian will install and monitor a radio-frequency system made by AMCO Water Metering Systems, Inc., the world’s largest meter manufacturer. “The system allows Guardian to monitor water consumption on a daily basis without running wires or disturbing residents. Submetering will ultimately result in conservation by making the residents of Wingate aware of their consumption, and by helping to identify leaks,” said Matt White, AMCO’s submetering market manager. "We are especially pleased with Matrix’s decision to use our system at Wingate Villages because it represents one of the three largest submetering installations in the U.S. and the single largest site incorporating AMCO’s InsideR Submetering technology.”

According to McGilvary, restoration of the 74-acre property will take about two years.
